Meet the team

The founders and editors

DSC08847.JPG

Hello! I'm Haani, the founder and Editor in Chief at Tarz.

I am currently in my last year of school at LGS 55 Main. Tarz has been my personal way of adding value to this world and our community; whether its through fostering dialogue, raising awareness about issues, allowing young artists and writers to feel validated, or talking to cool people with the excuse of interviewing them. Working on this magazine has usually looked like mind numbing hours over illustrators and graphic designing websites but it has also had its fair share of highs; tearing up when I saw the first art submission we received, celebrating at having finalized the cover page (thank you Emaan,) or privately texting each other making fun of the publisher. I am grateful for the team I have here, for my partner Zara and for all of my friends who have witnessed me cry or hysterically celebrate parts of this project.

We wanted to highlight that feminism can take many forms, and I hope that with every story that you discover within the pages of Tarz, you learn about a new form of it. We believe that words are revolutionary. I invite you to become part of our revolution, by adding your own words to our pages and rewriting our Tarz-e-Zindagi.

Salam!

I am Zara Nazir, a friendly Editor in Chief and Founder of Tarz. Enveloped in the ethereal strains of subcontinental music, particularly some haunting melodies of Noor Jahan and Iqbal Bano, I find true solace. My poetic musings draw inspiration from the profound verses of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Parveen Shakir, luminaries whose philosophies echo and live boldly through the passage of time. I aim to create unique art that hopefully has the same effect.

In the realm of creativity, I hold steadfast to the belief that its political manifestation is the zenith of bravery, an unwavering compass for one's moral bearing. With Tarz, my purpose unfolds – a platform not merely to applaud creativity but to empower nascent talents. Each stroke on our canvas and every syllable in our verse is a reverberation, a voice unshackled by societal norms.

A warm welcome to you here at Tarz, come one come all (especially girls)!
Let's make art that is as real and wild as the beating heart within each of us.
